Monday: Cycle the City

Monday, Craig and I took off to cycle around Burlington on one of the many engineered trails.  It was only supposed to be about 11 miles, but by the time we backtracked from all the missed turns and so on, we rode over 15 miles.  That's usually okay, but the sun and heat were intense, so we really got a work out!

Before we took off, we had burgers at Handy's Lunch.  It was  a blast from the past. We loved the food -- burgers with sweet fries -- sweet potato fries made fresh!
They had bills from dozens of countries taped to the pole in the middle of the island.  When they ran out of room on the pole, they started taping across the ceiling!  I saw bills from Middle Eastern countries, as well as Uganda, Costa Rica and other places.  It was pretty neat.

There were no tables, just a horse-shoe-shaped counter top.  It was  a neat little place.  Definitely a place to see when you come!

The trail was well advertised, but really poorly marked and not necessarily safe.  Lots of places along the way, we had to try to figure out what the map really meant because the trail is not often used.  As a result, I don't have lots of pictures -- no time to stop!  Also, there were some parts of the trail where there were some sketchy characters passing around bottles and such.  We just kept moving.  This particular section of the trail is a walkway over the highway at the edge of the Ethan Allen homestead. I thought it was pretty.
Craig on the trail.

This was an amazing field of cattails!!

Craig smiling on the ride in spite of the heat!

By far the best view of Lake Champlain so far, apart form the sunset.  I had to negotiate with a loiterer to get  this shot.  The lake is beautiful.
Craig got this cool shot of flying monkeys along a top of a building.  I want to find out a little more about why these are all over the tops of the buildings.

A toadstool and gnome along the bike path!?
